Stewardship Minute (From Sunday, June 28)

Proper 8, Year B
28 June 2009

In the reading from Corinthians, we see Paul at work. The church in Jerusalem is in a crisis. Last year the Corinthians promised financial help, but they haven’t actually collected the money yet.

Listen to Paul: As you excel in everything…so we want you to excel in this generous undertaking….You who began last year…to desire to do something, now finish doing it so that your eagerness may be matched by completing it according to your means….It is a question of fair balance between your present abundance and their nee, so that their abundance may be for your need.

This clever reasoning of Paul”s is fundraising. It is not stewardship. Do you know the difference?

Stewardship Minute (From Sunday, June 21)
by Michael Barham - Monday, 22 June 2009, 10:57 AM

We need to trust in God to give us the tools we need for God’s work. Saul, the king, tried to give David his sword and armor to fight Goliath. It was no use. David couldn’t move in the heavy things. With his slingshot, the tool David already had, and the belief that the Lord would save him from the hand of the Philistine, David took on Goliath and won.

In your next struggle, be thankful the God has given you what you need.
